Mr. Rey was born in Havana, Cuba and spent his early years in Regla, a city across the bay from Old Havana.  In 1969, the family migrated to the U.S. and settled in uptown Manhattan, in Inwood.

Life changed dramatically in 1984 when JL auditioned for what he thought was a local community theatre production of “South Pacific” – in reality, it was a professional dinner theatre with an Actor’s Equity Association contract!  At the Mark One Dinner Theater, JL’s tutelage began.  AEA members, Angela Angel and Susan Noblitt, took Jorge under their wings.  They began teaching him about the craft of acting and suggested reading material such as “An Actor Prepares” and important plays such as, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, “Death of a Salesman”, and “Buried Child”.   Over many conversations and drinks, an appreciation and passion for acting and storytelling was born.  Acting and voice training continue to this day, whenever he can find a class or workshop to attend.  ‘Learning never ends’ is a fundamental principle.

Since then, JL has worked in Musical Theatre, Drama, Farce, Comedy, Operetta, Shakespeare, Opera, Zarzuela, Cabaret, Concert, Film, Television Drama, TV Sitcom, Commercials, Voiceovers, Audiobooks, and Industrials, and has taught acting, audition workshops, and coached monologues, songs, and public speakers in the business world.
